ADULT CLASS

Saturday, November 1st – Sunday November 2nd, 2014

11am-5pm   Venue: To be arranged, but it’s in Halifax

 

This is a workshop for theatre professionals who wish to add a dynamic new skill to their palettes. Previous acting experience is strongly recommended.

Mouth puppets have entered the mainstream again. Originally famous on TV with the Muppets, now thanks to the hit musical Avenue Q, live stage mouth-puppetry is popping up all over the country!

FreshIdeas2013-PROOF-5974Puppeteer Mike Petersen spent two years on Jim Henson’s Fraggle Rock and nearly ten years with Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia. He’s also Bruce the Gorilla on CBC’s The Mighty Jungle and Binoo on Toopy & Binoo Vroom Vroom Zoom. As a teacher of puppetry, Mike has worked alongside Graham Whitehead at Mermaid Theatre, Allen MacInnis at YPT, Lynda Hill at Theatre Direct, Eric Woolfe at Eldritch Theatre, David Ferry at Toronto Masque Theatre, and Seanna Kennedy, director of the first Canadian production of Avenue Q at Lower Ossington Theatre.

During this two-day intensive, Mike will introduce the basics and drill some of the finer points of mouth puppetry performance for the stage.  Lip sync, focus, body language, nuance and voice will all be explored and shared.

YOUTH CLASS

Monday, November 3rd – Tuesday, November 4th – Age range: 12-17 years.

4pm-7pm Venue: To be arranged, but also Halifax.

Bring your puppets to life!

“Mouth puppets” are sometimes called “muppets” and if you have one, now is your chance to learn the tricks and techniques used by the pros.

This workshop will teach aspiring puppeteers all the most effective short-cuts to make your characters speak, breathe, walk, display a wide range of emotions, and most importantly: you’ll learn how to be funny, lifelike, and entertaining!

We accept credit cards (by phone, by arrangement), cheques (by mail) or cash (by hand.) Payment will need to be made in full to hold your place.

Cancellation Policy:

If the class gets cancelled (if the instructor is unable to attend) we will offer you a full refund. If you have to cancel your place, within 3 weeks of the class date, we offer no refund as classe prices are based on attendance.   Outside the three week time limit and we will refund your fee.
