Andrew German (left), Patrick Brunet, and Rebecca Apps work their butts off in Stop In The Name of Love in Summerside, PEI.
I had reason to be in Summerside PEI this past week and so was able to accept an invitation to see the lovely folks at Brothers 2 for a Feast Dinner Theatre and their current show Stop In The Name of Love.
As an actor myself, I want to mention straight away my admiration for all thespians that participate in this genre of entertainment.
These people are multi-talented; they have to be. They act, sing, play various musical instruments and then serve the food and drinks between acts. It makes me exhausted just thinking about it.
Stop In The Name of Love is the latest show in the cramped basement space that they use as a theatre and it’s fun.
A crazy plot involving a trashy Vegas wedding chapel (complete with drive thru window!), a young couple from Canada getting hitched on a whim and a reverend-in-training with the memory of a goldfish are some of the ingredients that make up a fun night silliness. I laughed, I cried, I ate some great stuffed chicken!
Stop In The Name of Love plays until September 3rd.

Crustaceans beware! Darryl Chickness (President of Bandage International), Edgar Samson (Premium Seafood) and Paul Doucette (Medical Director) attempt to entice Off The Leash with lobster.
You know you’ve had a great week when you reflect on the toughest decision you’ve had to make and it’s shall I eat lobster or steak. I was faced with this gargantuan dilemma on Thursday night at St. Mary’s Boat Club, presented with a buffet table of food including a stack of steaks and a lorry-load of lobsters.
I was invited to attend the 5th Annual Lobster and Steak Dinner, in support of Bandage International, a charity run by and made up of emergency medicine professionals: paramedics, nurses and doctors.
Bandage International is committed to teaching emergency health responders in developing countries, improving safety by improving primary emergency medical care. They work in Belize, Central America and Guyana, South America.

CTV reporter Aylse Hand and her sister Meredith volunteer behind the bar at Bandage International’s Lobster and Steak event.
On a beautiful evening the barbeque was in overdrive, turning out steak after steak and the lobster pot saw the lights go out for many a crustacean as people devoured the delicious food, donated by the charities generous supporter Edgar Samson, of Premium Seafood.
For those who care, I went with the steak. I suggest you check out this worthy cause and make a date for the 6th Annual Lobster & Steak night. I’ll be going back. There’s a lobster with my name on his shell. www.bandageinternational.org
A final word this week to encourage you all to get off the couch this week and check out the newly rejuvenated Atlantic Fringe Festival. The festival recently underwent a major enhancement and is jam-packed with a spectacular line up of local, national and international theatre. Never done the Fringe before? Like to be entertained? Grow a pair, go ‘off the leash’ and see some cost-effective theatre. You won’t regret it. www.atlantic fringe.ca
