Jeremy Webb back at work

It’s great to be back on the beat, going ‘off the leash’ in Nova Scotia, after a three month hiaitus. I spent 6 weeks touring some theatre plays in North Carolina and Georgia and eating way too much southern fried food.

This week I got my camera out of mothballs and hit the party circuit and, it seems, arrived back just in time. As the temperatures outside drop, the city is warming up. My party invite list for next week is jam-packed already.

My first port of call this week was to Pier 21 for a pep. Rally for the annual fundraiser, Bust-A-Move for Breast Health, hosted by the QEII and IWK Foundations.

I joined a few hundred fitness fanatics for a wine and cheese party as this year’s March 24th event organizers explained the fun in store for 2012. Comedian Andrea Martin has been lined up to host this year, as special celebrity guest and the participants will spend the actual event day taking part in a series of grueling fitness classes at The Canada Games Centre.

As part of the rally, Bust-A-Move’s creative director Tracy Cipryk managed to get the entire room taking part in an impromptu dance party, busting a move and busting the occasional button in our evening attire!

I have been roped in to help the Bust-A-Move cause. On Friday January 28th I shall be hosting Bust-A-Gut (for Bust-A-Move,) a comedy night at Casino Nova Scotia’s Harbourfront Lounge. Tickets are just $20 and are available via Facebook, or on the door.

Lined up to tickle your funny bones for a great cause are Candy Palmater, Megan McDowell, laurie Jones, all girl sketch-troupe Hot Mess and, coming out of retirement for this one night, The Improv Knights.

Maria Panopalis & Paul Hollingsworth (CTV) and Monique Auffrey (Courage to Give Back Awards)

Three talented songstresses at The Cunard Centre

I dashed from having my moves busted, to join a big crowd at The Cunard Centre on Thursday  night, for the 6th Annual Courage to Give Back Awards, honouring extraordinary individuals in our community. The award recipients this year were the humbling Milo Gray, Dr. Howard Conter, Helen MacDonnell and Kathi Sherko.

I was seated with artist Kyle Jackson (who had donated some glorious artwork to the live auction, raising thousands) and with singer/songtresses Rose Cousins, Ria Mae and Christina Martin, who wowed the crowd by giving a song each.

Award ambassador Fred Connors was honoured during the night and seized the chance to offer himself up as a mayoral candidate in the upcoming election. The move surprised the friendly crowd, who rose to their feet in support.

Connors is a larger-than-life character who couldn’t be more opposite then Mayor Peter Kelly. I wonder if the HRM is ready for such a vibrant mayor?
